Purpose and goal
The project purpose was to support meriting of Dr. Callaghan, an advanced career scholar at Acadia University. Dr. Callaghan´s home university a primarily undergraduate, teaching focused university. While well experienced as a teacher, Dr. Callaghan sought support to further advance herself as a scholar. This Vinnova project has given Dr. Callaghan the support required to achieve this goal. Dr. Callaghan has conducted four community case studies, published one journal article (three additional articles are close to completion), and has presented at three academic conferences.
Expected results and effects
During this project, we were able to work with four communities to facilitate understanding of sustainable food systems (SFS), both globally and in relation to local community realities. We are currently in the final stages of data analysis. From these projects to-date, one paper has published, and three additional paper are in production. Continued work with these communities and additional communities is anticipated. Enhanced understanding of SFS, and enabling of community self-determinacy will lead to increased demand for sustainability within our food systems.
Planned approach and implementation
This project required Dr. Callaghan to travel between her host and home institutions: BTH, Sweden, and Acadia University, Canada. Balancing host and home institutional requirements was challenging. BTH provided support to ease logistical stresses, as well as guidance for scholarship and meriting. It is felt by both Dr. Callaghan and Dr. Broman, Director of Department of Strategic Sustainable Development, BTH, that the efforts were well worth the results. This fellowship opportunity has laid solid foundation for ongoing collaboration between Dr. Callaghan and scholars at BTH.
