Reference number
Coordinator Luleå tekniska universitet - Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser
Funding from Vinnova SEK 850 000
Project duration December 2012 - March 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to initiate the cooperation from the project ´LWE and Wingquist - competitive production across borders.´ The objectives were to create conditions for new business models for building platforms and an industrial action plan towards an increased cost efficient industrialized building production. The project created: 1) joint submissions to a strategic agenda ´Industrial processes for construction and facility management´ and an SIO program ´Smart Built Environment´ and 2) An industrial anchored action plan formulated as a first draft of a UDI application.

Results and expected effects

The action plan and the initiated cooperation are good results. The action plan will lead to long-term effects of 1) a strong Swedish area of knowledge for competitive construction production and 2) increased cross-industry enterprise collaboration. The action plan and the SIO program provide good conditions for part 1). Regarding part 2) we see in the current situation no challenge for automotive companies to work together with house building companies.

Approach and implementation

The idea for the project emanated from Vinnova´s internal knowledge work regarding their excellence centers (WQL and LWE) and the drive for competitive production. Linking two independent industries through a catalyzing tool (this project) by academic collaboration has proved an effective method to get two otherwise quite different academic environments to cooperate. The collaboration work was based workshops, seminars, i.e. collecting data and analyzing methods to be used in more extensive R&I later.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
