Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The overall project objective was to improve interoperability between tools by implementing real use cases based on a common interoperability specification. The development process was also expected to be improved by the use of new engineering methods and tools. The first objective has been well achieved as OSLC was relatively unknown when the project started, but now has been adopted by several tool manufacturers. The second objective has been partially achieved since a number of the tested methods attracted interest in Volvo and will continue to be evaluated.

Expected results and effects

The main expected outcome was a common, open interoperability specification as well as a large number of tool adapters being implemented according to this specification. Volvo´s contribution was to propose two different methods to connect the vehicle-specific standards AUTOSAR and EAST-ADL against the general OSLC standard to thereby increase the adoption of the specification. Volvo has also implemented a number of tool adapters to validate the specification and to increase knowledge about it.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was structured around the use cases based on real development processes of various companies including Volvo. Given the use case, the project work focused on improving workflow through usage of new tools and methods, and better tool interoperability. The arrangement was a good way to identify concrete and relevant problems and to ensure that the proposed solutions work in practice.
