Coordinated rock and soil management

Reference number
Coordinator Ecoloop AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 200 000
Project duration June 2015 - January 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to make a thorough analysis of the conditions under which services based on a tool for excavated rock and soil prognoses in the building process would be useful and profitable. To this end a business plan was developed where key customer groups and their needs were identified and business offers to each customer group were definied and tested through contacts with customers. As a result of the work with the customer groups two new projects have been started together with customers, to study the flows of rock and soil materials in two different regions of Scandinavia.

Results and expected effects

Several municipalities and key persons in government agencies have been made aware of the benefits of coordinating rock and soil handling in a region. It is expected that this will lead to measures for shorter rock- and soil transports, implementation of Best Available Technologies to decrease disturbances from rock and soil handling in urban areas as well as support in the municipal comprehensive planning stage for coordination or rock and soil handling. This in turn will lead to decreased climate gas emissions and decreased costs in building projects.

Approach and implementation

The project defined actors in the rock and soil handling process in a region, and their interests. Based on that analysis business offers were developed, as well as strategies for information exchange with government agencies and strategically important actors. The project contacted and informed representatives for the different groups of actors of the purpose and benefits of coordinated rock and soil handling, and also offered services based on the prognosis tool.
