Project duration November 2012 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goal was to establish collaborations in Brazil in the area of applied environmental technology that will work for creating confidence and demand for Swedish environmental technology. The conclusion is that the Brazilian market is a very good potential for Swedish environmental technologies. In order to accomplish this, a number of barriers has to be faced. Both IVL and the Swedish environmental technology company have found partners in Brazil. We have also built up a good partnership with Business Sweden and Volvo in Brazil. This will be deepened in a continuation of the project.

Results and expected effects

Working closely with Volvo´s plants in Brazil, we have built up a good knowledge of the Brazilian environmental technology market. This has been reinforced through meetings with academia and companies, help from the Business Sweden in Sao Paolo and through an internship work performed in Sweden. Since water is a scarce commodity, Sao Paolo has high water prices. The project has therefor shown a very good potential for closed processes that recycle water. To accomplish this, a number of obstacles has to be met. This requires enhanced cooperation with our partners.

Approach and implementation

To understand the Brazilian environmental technology market and to establish confidence in the Swedish environmental technology, a close cooperation with Volvo in Brazil, a few academic partners as well as with an environmental technology company has been established. During the project, we have realized how extremely important it is to find the right partners. Therefore we decided to focus on this. This has turned out to be successful and we now have very good Brazilian partners to move forward with in a continuation of the project.
