Reference number
Coordinator Jonsac AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 499 525
Project duration April 2013 - April 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to develop a non leaking, compostable sack/bag for food waste disposal that can be produced in the existing production lines in Jonsac. Different combination of materials have been evaluated and optimized in both lab- and full-scale production. Material and process optimazation has enabled a new competitive product with a better water and grease resistance compared to other products on the market. The new product has shown promising results during tests with Jonsac:s customers.

Results and expected effects

The project has been noticed in the local newspaper in Mariestad/Otterbäcken and in Avfall och Miljö, no 2, 2014. A scientific publication has been accepted for presentation at an international conference, Iarigai 2014in Swansea, UK, 7-10 Oct. All this attention has made potential customers awere of the new product and these customers approach Jonsac for inquiries to buy the product. It is likely that the new product will increase Jonsac:s turnover in a near future.

Approach and implementation

The Labscale printing trials have been a good starting point in planning the fullscale trials in Jonsac production plant. Analysis made under controlled conditions also have been able to point out potential weakness of the protypes and suggested improvements of the product. The lan analysis would be of less value if the product could not be produced in fullscaleor would cause problems at customers or in the compost facility.
