Project duration November 2015 - May 2016
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Production2030

Purpose and goal

Experiments indicating the capability of digital detectors to detect relevant defects in real components have been conducted. A literature review and a list of suppliers of automatic analysis of the X-ray inspection have been compiled. The question of how automatic analysis of the X-ray inspection should be introduced in order not to jeopardize the quality of the inspection has been explored. Networking activities has been conducted in Germany and Sweden.

Results and expected effects

It has been shown that digital X-ray detectors can be used to detect relevant defects in components. Any available solution of safe automatic analysis of X-ray inspection suitable for the quality concerned manufacturing industry has not been found, research questions have been written. Current state digital X-ray is estimated to increase manufacturing efficiency and competiveness, e.g. computer assisted analysis. Value creating routines, introduced together with digital X-ray, have been listed.

Approach and implementation

Experiments with X-ray inspection of components made by the participating companies have been performed. The experiments were performed together with and in the lab of one of the participating companies. Digital X-ray detectors were borrowed from a nondestructive testing service company and a Swedish detector manufacturer which was identified early in the project. The experiments used an earlier study from one of the participating companies as inspiration. Three project meetings have been held.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
