Purpose and goal

Alvira is a new, disruptive tech startup entering the Swedish home security market with the ambition to give everyone, no matter their financial status, the ability to feel safe in their home. With our combined smoke-detector and motion sensor we want to create a connected, hyper-local, digital neighbourhood watch. During 2019 and 2020 we have developed our initial hardware, app and cloud service. We have just started testing our system on a larger audience in the hope of finding out what needs to be adjusted prior to a public launch.

Expected results and effects

Now, at the end of the project, we are able to show a functional prototype; everything from hardware, to app to our cloud service has been designed and developed. Our long term goal is to increase safety for individuals, homes and neighbourhoods while decreasing the two most common fears among Swedish homeowners; break-ins and fires. Our vision is to fundamentally change what home security is, how it works, and who can afford it and ultimately protect their homes.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been divided into two main sections, development of the hardware and the software. Arvid Bräne and Tobias Svehagen have been in charge of the hardware development, together with external partners within industrial design and hardware architecture. Albin Hübsch and Tobias Svehagen have together been in charge of the development software, both of the cloud service and the embedded firmware with minor support from a temporary intern. On top of this we’ve also gotten help from a manufacturing partner to get the circuit boards manufactured for the prototypes.
