Aligning Requirements and Verification Practices in Air Traffic Control Systems

Reference number
Coordinator SAAB Aktiebolag - SAAB AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 4 935 060
Project duration September 2013 - December 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aimed to develop and verify methods for defining and testing non-functional requirements. The developed methods are automated and quality information can thus continuously be looped back to the development teams. In addition, the project, which utilized an interdisciplinary approach, has studied how new working methods can be implemented effectively in a software engineering organization.

Expected results and effects

The automatic verification methods that have been developed and tested make it possible to identify software issues at an early stage, resulting in cost reductions and improved system quality. Furthermore, the project has highlighted the importance of understanding and developing agile teams since the complexity of the software systems continually increases. Finally, the project has compiled guidelines for organizational change in software engineering organizations that emphasize the human aspects.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has had a clear interdisciplinary focus and is a collaboration between Saab, the Psychological Department at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. The project has used both quantitative and qualitative studies where concepts and ideas have been developed and evaluated in an industrial context. Examples of methods that have been used are surveys, literature reviews, and focus groups.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
