Project duration November 2013 - November 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aims of this 4-year project are to improve the performance of existing coatings for protecting hot components in gas turbines and to develop corresponding life models. Cooperation between the project partners has been successful. After initiation optimization of materials and process, 7 coating systems (including references) were manufactured and evaluations with extensive characterization tests are in progress. With the planed work in Part 2, it is expected that by the end of the project we will reach all the goals of the project.

Results and expected effects

Selection of coating systems, deposition, and tests, and coating qualification, which concern the overall quality of the project. Manufacturing of TBC and overlay specimens for an extensive characterization plan after initial optimization of materials and process. TCF results reveal possibility for further optimization of a high purity nano TBC. Modelling on a reference TBC indicates minor effects of creep on the TBC´s life. 6 published/submitted articles, 2 submitted abstracts

Approach and implementation

The project work has been carried out through close collaboration between partners. Project tasks have been set-up in which the responsibility and participation of the partners have been clearly specified. Physical project meetings and monthly telephone meetings as well as intensive exchange of information and results via e-mail communications have been important for the successful collaboration.
