Important results from the project
Within the project the preconditions for controlling and monitoring of complex production processes have been established. The identification of the generic subsystems, the system boundaries and the associated interactions for adaptive process controlling have been realized. The generated technological platform provides a basis for development of feasible digitalization solutions by combining robots, advanced sensor technology, data processing, FE simulation and self-learning systems in order to provide feedback and correct the production process and its outcomes.
Expected long term effects
The identification of various research areas founded the basis for a number of realizable project ideas with the possibility to radically improve the production process chain with the help of digitalization. The developed solutions are of general value and increased the ability of the participating project partners to exploit the opportunities of digitalization in future projects. A comprehensive analysis of the technical possibilities revealed both the opportunities and challenges of digitalization and contributed to an improved foundation for future project initiatives.
Approach and implementation
The project was performed in cooperation with Volvo cars and University West. Intensive discussions and meetings have been established to identify the project opportunities, constraints and development needs. This has been supplemented by monitoring and identification of existing digitalization solutions. By taking into account solutions from other industry sectors a multitude of digitalization possibilities have been identified. The combination of technical survey and the competences of the involved project partners helped to develop innovative solutions.
