A software platform and cloud service for simple publication of Linked Open Data

Reference number
Coordinator METASOLUTIONS AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 762 000
Project duration December 2012 - December 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project focused on the development of an Open Source-platform and on offering a cloud service that gives organisations the possibility of avoiding big investments into an in-house solution. The platform is now available both in an open code repository and as a commercial service. Depending on the organisation´s prerequisites it can be deployed within its own infrastructure or used as a cloud service.

Results and expected effects

The platform developed allows to publish datasets as Linked Open Data. The platform is not limited to a specific domain and is therefore applicable to a large amount of organisations. Our Open Source platform eventually eliminates obstacles such as lack of resources or knowledge and contributes to an increased publication of Linked Open Data. The platform has been applied in two different case studies, in which energy data (Knivsta municipality) as well as statistical data (Statistics Sweden) have been published as LOD.

Approach and implementation

The platform has been developed in several iterations that resulted in an Open Source platform and the cloud service LODify.com. Linked Open Data has been published in the case studies. Short movies have been produced, both to document the case studies and to show the platform´s possibilities. The project focused on the platform development and two case studies: (1) Statistical data from SCB and (2) Energy data from Knivsta municipality. The project results have been presented at different events such as the meetup ´Linked Data in Sweden´ (Linköping) and the Internet days (Stockholm).
