3D Nanoplatform

Reference number
Coordinator Uppsala universitet - Institutionen för teknikvetenskaper
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 000 000
Project duration June 2015 - June 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project was aimed at developing technologies for the future´s 3D nano-printers, especially positioning tables with nanometer-controlled movements. The goal was to prepare for business based on these printers, including market analysis as well as development of prototypes and manufacturing technology. The plan was to target initial sales to researchers with micro / nanotechnology needs and subsequently develop additional business models.

Expected results and effects

The components and manufacturing techniques of 3D nanoprinters have been evaluated and meet the demands of manufacturing costs and performance. Linear tables in the printer have a flatness /straightness value better than 0.1 m for a 25 mm stroke which is an order of magnitude better than competing solutions. Some simple patterns of polymeric m-thin fibers have already been printed and we expect to have a ready-to-use 3D nanoprinter for sale within a few years depending on financing.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been divided into market, business, IP and production analysis. In addition, the production process has been verified in the form of two generations of prototypes both for measuring performance and assessing manufacturing costs. A production analysis of new technology requires extensive tests to identify difficulties and opportunities. As far as market and business analysis are concerned, there is a lot of information but uncertainties are always great.
