Purpose and goal

In accordance with its aims and objectives, Tekniska museet has illustrated the power of innovation and creativity in its exhibition 100 innovations, which opened in 2012. The exhibition is based on a representative nationwide survey of 2000 Swedes, aged 10 to 74, who were asked to identify the most important innovations. Their choices form the foundation of a large, continually-evolving exhibition in which each visitor can vote for their own favourites. More than 600 exhibits are on display as part of a modern, interactive and playfully-designed exhibition.

Results and expected effects

The exhibition covers 2,000 m2. Since its launch in 2012, it has attracted 450,000 visitors. Studies show more satisfied and engaged customers who stay for longer. Almost 2,000 school classes have visited the exhibition, which is more than was expected. Many different companies and organisations have chosen to hold events at the museum because of the exhibition and its special appeal. ´100 Innovations´ has enjoyed a lot of media interest, which has placed the museum significantly above the sector index. The exhibition has been awarded two prestigious international prizes.

Approach and implementation

The project began with a representative nationwide survey which asked 2000 Swedes, aged 10 to 74, about the most important innovations. The co-creation concept has received lots of national and international attention. The continued dialogue with the public has also benefited the museum in its ongoing acquisition of new collections. Through the exhibition, the museum has increased co-operation with schools, families, companies and organisations and has, itself, taken the role of being a centre of innovation. The project has also generated an unusually-high media profile.
