The strategic innovation programme Bioinnovation

Bioinnovation is based on the strategic innovation agenda "A bio-based economy", which will contribute to increasing Sweden’s competitiveness within the bio-based economy. The aim is that Sweden will have completed the transition to a bio-based economy by 2050. The starting point of the programme is collaboration across industry boundaries, primarily within the forestry, chemistry and textile industries.

In this call, BioInnovation finances projects that develop new or further develop processes for a circular bioeconomy. The goal is for the projects to create the conditions for an increased amount of bio-based products on the market and an efficient use of the bio raw material. The production of competitive products from bio-based raw materials requires the development of new and existing processes. High production costs with existing technology currently inhibit investments in bio-based alternatives. Processes are also needed that ensure correct and stable product quality, even though there are variations in the composition and quality of the raw material.
