Purpose and goal
The main objective of the project is to improve the ability to design efficient compressors through a large-scale utilization of computer power in the design. To achieve this, one has to take into account that the compressor has to operate stable in varying operating conditions, and that one must accept that there are variations in the geometry from manufacturing tolerance. Studies have been carried out first for the design of a blade or a stage. As a demonstration fimnally, a 3-stage compressor has been designed using the developed technique.
Expected results and effects
The project plan has been implemented as intended without any significant deviations. The results have been very good both in terms of understanding of what needs to be included and taken care of in optimization. During the first year, a doctoral student who started in the field of the NFFP5 project "Compressor Design Methods for NSA / Open Rotor" presented his thesis. In the project, Markus Lejon the principal researcher defends his thesis in June. During the project time several publications have been made common between Chalmers and GKN.
Planned approach and implementation
The project has worked very well. This is partly the result of an understanding built up on how research in the field can be carried out in a good way. Close collaboration with the doctoral student at GKN parts of the time, and having worked with senior development workers has greatly contributed. In order for this to work, the actors must be confident in each other and for what can be industrially sensitive. The most important part of the implementation has still been that the PhD student has been very skilled.
