Purpose and goal

Mitt kvarter is a new collaborative model for increased social integration locally in Hallunda-Norsborg that includes Kompis Sverige, Botkyrkabyggen and a tenant association. The model also involves local ambassadors and associations in northern Botkyrka. In total, 163 people participated in the eight social activities organized in two different residential areas. The activities helped neighbors get to know each other "I got to know a new person who also has children. We have met twice by ourselves. Very fun." Female, 61 years, Norsborg

Expected results and effects

To follow up on how participants have developed towards the project´s qualitative objectives, we have conducted in-depth interviews with nine participants. Eight enjoyed how participation afforded them with the opportunity to speak swedish, four have started saying hello to new people in the area, one has met with a new person several times after. All nine appreciate the opportunity to meet new people and want to attend more meetings. An employee at BB told us in Dec. that the proportion of complaints he has received from residents have decreased dramatically since Mitt kvarter started.

Planned approach and implementation

A general analysis that we share with Botkyrkabyggen is that his type of work must be characterized by a long-term commitment as well as a constant responsiveness to the needs of residents in Norsborg. Regular contact, motivation-elevating activities, and empowerment-by-doing are key komponents, especially in engaging foreign-born women whom have lived in Sweden for several years but who don´t speak fluent Swedish nor are established in the labor market.
