Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to find an acoustic understanding of the questions around the last mile in a distribution corridor used at off peak traffic. The purpose was also to create a methodology for specifying such a vehicle acoustically. The project has delivered significant knowledge and a good understanding for the prerequisite of this type of corridor and vehicle. Chalmers has also created the demanded methodology asked for in the project. The work with a more vehicle adapted low frequency indoor noise level compared to today´s dBA values was not solved and has to be examined further.

Results and expected effects

Chalmers has created a calculation methodology for future work with acoustical optimization of vehicles in transport corridors. The acoustic work has resulted in a better understanding of acoustical demands related to such upcoming changes in transportation. The work also indicates there are several solutions for distribution corridors for use during ´off peak´ time and they depend on the context and implies cooperation between all involved actors. Chalmers work has also shown the need for a better knowledge of noise perception to secure an acceptance of changes in distribution.

Approach and implementation

The project has been divided into preparation, analyse and modelling, and verification. All three parts have worked very well and have generated needed results for next phase. The only problem has been lack of resources but could be solved with an extension of project in time. The preparation gave relevant conditions, in analyse and modelling phase all needed analyses could be performed together with all exercises in Volvos semi-Eco free room and in apartments. In verification phase we managed to put all parts together and to generate the results aimed at in project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
