Important results from the project
The project objectives are to 1) characterize the epigentic regulation of opioids in a cell line and knockout models. 2) developing an epigenetic therapy either by a new drug that counteract the drawback of the opioids or a new formula of analgesic free from these drawbacks.
Expected long term effects
For this planning project everything is sorted out and preliminary plan have been agreed on and the big project preparation is in progress. The core facility of Karolinska Institute and the genomic facility have been checked and the equipment that will be used in the project are available to researchers and visiting researchers.
Approach and implementation
The main methodology will include: a) Genome-wide SNP genotyping assay. b) TaqMan genotyping method. c) Direct sequencing method. d) Whole-genome DNA methylation assay. e) Gene specific DNA methylation assay. f) Quantitative RT-PCR analysis. Karolinska Institute laboratories and core facilities are equipped with the necessary instrumentation to carry out the project.
