Project duration January 2016 - December 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The Regional council of Ostergotland endorses increased digital inclusion. The County Library has carried out a study exploring how mobile libraries within the region, could evolve into digital media buses and adapt their accessibility towards identified target groups. Activities have been put into practice and documentation have been developed in cooperation with libraries in Norrköping, Motala, Linköping University, the County Administrative Board of Ostergotland and disability organisations.

Expected results and effects

The implementation of a digital media bus takes time and dedication in order to reach new target groups. Local contacts and collaborations are vital. It can be a tool for reaching out with distinct efforts and specific information, locally or regionally or supplement or replace physical locations for the public service. There is a need to review how the placement of the municipal libraries ´ physical premises today responds to the need of service and meeting places in the longer term.

Planned approach and implementation

The mobile libraries of Norrköping and Motala city libraries, has been used to examine working methods, staffing, collaborations and equipment needed to reach the target groups children/youth 7-17 years (technology workshops) and immigrant families with small children (language, reading, digital inclusion). The target groups have been reached. Experiences and results have been collected in cooperation between project partners and compiled to form a basis for in-depth study and development work.
