Purpose and goal

Injuries caused by falls consume substantial society resources and cause a lot of suffering and lowered life quality for the individual and relatives. The goal for the project is to create innovative tools based on systematized international knowledge about risk factors and activity types to reduce the risk of falling. The purpose is to build effective methods and ICT based tools aimed to support the individual and society for preventing falls of the aging population in an individual oriented way.

Expected results and effects

The expected effect was to systematize knowledge and build usable ICT based tools to contribute to the reduction of risk of falling in different European and worldwide countries and that the results can be used to offer commercial services. The reached results and working ICT-tools have good potential of being brought to the marked to really contribute the reduction of falls. The tools are more powerful than other tools on the existing market.

Planned approach and implementation

First a systematized and structured gathering and analysis of existing evidence was performed to systematize and make use of all the substantial knowledge regarding risk factors and possible assessment and intervention activities. This means mental, physical, neurological as well as environmental factors. The next step was to develop tools how to support the reduction of falls. The third step was to perform tests and studies what effects has been reached from using these new tools.
