Important results from the project
The goal of the project was to perform experimental tests of performance and aerodynamics in an optimized state-of-the-art turbine outlet guide vane structure. In a new test-facility at Chalmers University of Technology measurements were planned to increase our knowledge of the important flow-physics in these components and to validate computational analysis methods.
Expected long term effects
The project has given very valuable new knowledge of the flow physics in a modern turbine outlet guide vane structure. We have also validated our analysis methods. Perhaps most importantly we have designed, manufactured and commissioned a new world-class test-facility that will be used in valuable research in the coming years.
Approach and implementation
A close cooperation between Chalmers University of Technology and GKN Engine Systems Sweden has made it possible to commission a new turbine-structure test-rig and perform a valuable measurement campaign. The project has also financed a PhD student from Licentiate degree to PhD degree.
