Purpose and goal
The purpose of the following project has been to investigate and evaluate the possibilities of industrial extraction of textile fibers from slaughterhouse products that are discarded, in this case tendons from reindeer. The aim of the project was to evaluate how textile fibers and yarn can be extracted in an economically and environmentally sustainable way in a circular system from slaughterhouse to finished products.
Expected results and effects
Through laboratory experiments we have shown that fibers can be extracted industrially in an environmentally friendly way. Furthermore, the project has established a consortium that represents the entire value chain from raw material to product. A market analysis of the demand of both craftsmen and industry shows that there is a future market for both smaller and larger quantities if the production of thread is rationalized and that the thread thus becomes economically affordable in crafts as well as industrial contexts.
Planned approach and implementation
The project has been divided into four sub-goals; study of refinement methods, establishment of consortium, method for gender mainstreaming and project plan for part 2. The development of the refinement methods is seen as an important next step in order to get the thread in larger quantities to develop existing value chain but also to expand the range of future applications for After the advice.
