Important results from the project

The project aimed to see which process and product hypotheses are most suitable for using the residual stream okara in a resource-efficient and applicable way. The goal was to develop new products and business models through the development of processes and methods that provide increased resource efficiency, and at the same time create economic and environmental sustainability.

Expected long term effects

The project resulted in a drying solution implemented in the oat drink process to take care of the okara. Both dried and undried okara have been used in the development of new types of products from prototype to market-ready. New business models have been created for upscaling and utilization both nationally and internationally while contributing to increased environmental benefits. The results have contributed to new knowledge within the industry.

Approach and implementation

All participants of the project team (academia and industry partners) ensured that the content, structure and implementation both maintained a high scientific level and that the results were relevant to the activities of the industrial partners. WPs were carried out according to the plans and were well anchored in the project´s overall objective, and the project team´s knowledge and competencies were utilized and strengthened. Regular meetings, workshops and seminars created an open and equal atmosphere where everyone had a say and everyone´s opinions and ideas were well received.
