Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to establish the foundations for industrial production of TWOOD material, from both a technical and market perspective. Thus, the project has had two overall goals. The first was to design a strategy and business model for TWOOD AB, which was based on a market and competitor analysis. The second goal was to produce at least two prototypes with two customers using the material.

Expected results and effects

The business strategy is based on three phases. In phase 1 and 2, TWOOD actively participates in design and product development, to ensure that quality and design requirements are fulfilled. In phase 3, industrial production is initiated, which in proof-of-concept volume corresponds to about 100 tons of denim material per year. Furthermore, three product prototypes have been developed in cooperation with three customers: (i) A denim guitar (ii) A denim heel for a pair of women´s shoes (iii) A number of denim jewelry. Limited editions of the guitar and jewelry will be produced in 2019.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was divided into four work packages: WP 1 - Market analysis WP 2 - Business model WP 3 - Prototype production WP 4 Communication Project manager and responsible for work packages 1, 3 and 4 was Lill O. Sjöberg. In work package 2, Joel Arnoldsson, Wargön Innovation, acted as sub-project manager. Work package 3 has been conducted in collaboration with the Loop Factory and its CEO Anna Altner, as well as with several independent designers and manufacturers. The cooperation between the respective work packages has worked well throughout the project.
