Trollsaga - A unique VR game that improves the player´s empathy skills
Purpose and goal
The objective is to develop and test a prototype for an empathy-inducing VR game, aiming to result in a methodology för empathy-improving game design for a global market. The project is built around three phases: - Technological development incl. additional game sequences, eye-tracking and haptic input. - Reserach study to create scientific support for the game/method´s impact on empathy in the brain. - IPR analysis aiming to detail an IPR strategy for the method.
Expected results and effects
The expected results include a finalised playable VR prototype game, scientifically tested and proven to have a positive effect on the brain´s empathy development. Based on this, we expect to be able to define a methodology för empathy-inducing game design, along with an IPR strategy, to be launched for a global market. We expect to be able to offer a solution combining VR gaming and VR therapy, with the potential to create societal benefits on the future gaming market.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will be carried out in three phases: 1. Technological development of VR prototype. The game is extended with additional sequences, eye tracking and haptic input - which is expected to increase the empathy-inducing effect. 2. The prototype is scientifically tested through brain wave scanning, in collaboration with Sarah Hill and Dr Jeff Tarrant. The focus of the testing will be longterm effects, comparisons to other VR experiences, effect of eye tracking and haptic input. A method will be derived from the results. 3. An IPR analysis and strategy will be defined for the method.
