Purpose and goal

The purpose of SeFram has been to increase the knowledge regarding information security applied to the vehicle industry and establish a framework for design of secure solutions for the cars internal communication networks, external communication such as V2V and V2I and create security models for other applications communication over internet. A methodology for analysis of electrical systems solutions, supported by experience from the telecom industry, has been adopted for vehicle applications, e.g. securing Diagnostics over IP, analysis of an electrical systems network partitioning from a security point of view. Knowledge from the project has been fed into standardisation work within EU (Car2Car Communication Consortium) and global harmonisation EU/US within Car2Car. The project has resulted in 13 academic publications which have been presented in various international foras. The project has been performed according to the pattern applied in Volvo Cars VIPP program, i.e. the academic research is disseminated into the organisation via the industrial supervisor. The research is divided in two main tracks 1)Securing communication between the vehicle and the surrounding world. 2)Influence of the internal network architecture on information security In the first track focus has been on securing V2x communication and secure remote diagnostics (including SW updates) In the second track focus was safeguarding predictable states in the most appropriate way.

Expected results and effects

A methodology for analysis of electrical systems solutions, supported by experience from the telecom industry, has been adopted for vehicle applications, e.g. securing Diagnostics over IP, analysis of an electrical systems network partitioning from a security point of view. Planned approach and implementation
