Important results from the project
Knowledge and methods for evaluating the most common failure modes has been developed. Methods for analysis problems related to pre-synchronization as well as overloading of the friction surfaces has seen large improvements. These models are partly integrated in the systems model to investigate the integration with the rest of the transmission and the vehicle.
Expected long term effects
Methods to predict functionality, synchronization time and service life for synchronizer systems has been developed. The methods has been validated with physical testing. The methods are already in use in industry for both development of new products, improvements and support of existing products as well as to support more time-efficient testing.
Approach and implementation
Project meetings have been held biannually with all four involved parties, who have a common goal and a structured way of advancing towards it. Scania and Volvo has contributed greatly with knowledge of usage conditions, problems that can occur, test data and dedicated time in physical test rigs. The project has been presented at the universities to inspire student interest in transmission development.
