Purpose and goal

Sweden is leading nation in substituting fossil fuels, however with biofuels imports. There are much project and technology development for commercial large-scale production in forest-based biorefineries. This project will investigate and propose how investments can be facilitated with objectives and goals in: - Identifying and analyzing essential factors to realize the potential - Investigating risks for investments and how these can be managed and minimized - Analyzing and proposing roadmap with new instruments, also for shipping and aviation sectors.

Expected results and effects

This project investigates and proposes how investments can be facilitated to realize the production potential and investigate risks and how these can be managed. The project will give risk management in the decision-making process for biorefineries. Furthermore, analysis of promotion measures for use of biofuels. The result is proposals for steering instruments and how can barriers be eliminated when introduced. In summary, concrete proposals for new steering instruments for biofuels, also for shipping and aviation sectors with improved conditions for new investments.

Planned approach and implementation

Svebio is the project coordinator with partners Energifabriken, Sekab, Holmen, Södra Skogsägarna, PyroCell, Porcupine, RenFuel and Sveriges Åkeriföretag. Svebio will use its large network BioDriv. Work packages include: - Collection of information of important factors and experiences in investing in biorefineries - Analysis of factors decisive in the decision-making, risk analysis and classification, with proposal for risk management - Surveys and proposals for steering instruments, also for shipping and aviation sectors - Communication, dissemination, workshop.
