Important results from the project
A pharmaceutical cream with short shelf life that is greasy and has to be applied several times daily is not acceptable for patients nor producers. As a result of the project, a user-friendly formulation encapsulating the active substance, and providing prolonged shelf life, has been developed. The innovative formulation for on skin drug delivery is based on Speximo´s patented encapsulation technology. The functionality was verified using a well characterized model substance, a peptide with a clear pharmaceutical effect for on skin distribution, proved safe in clinical tests.
Expected long term effects
A formulation for encapsulation of a peptide has been developed. The formulation has improved the stability of the selected substance. The user compliance has been substantially improved by this non greasy formulation for on skin distribution. The formulation has a very innovative format.
Approach and implementation
The project included development of prototypes based on encapsulation of an active substance for on skin pharmaceuticals and verification of the functionality. Additional safety and regulatory aspects have been investigated demonstrating that the formulation can be seen as safe. A final prototype has been selected and planning for the next verification step has been initiated.
