Purpose and goal

The aim of this project was to create an understanding of IoT possibilities and challenges in the context of professional products, specifically focusing on how an IoT infrastructure can be created. This has been met by 1) the creation of a functioning technical solution/demonstrator and 2) a multi-level interview study where actors from diverse parts of the value chain have contributed with their perspective on the complex challenges and possibilities associated with developing and offering value-adding IoT solutions and services.

Results and expected effects

The project has resulted in: -The creation of a technological solution and a plan for further development with possibilities for future commercialization. -New business relationships -Knowledge about the necessary elements for building an IoT-infrastructure -Insights into how IoT can be used to create value-adding services.

Approach and implementation

The project has had a dual approach; the developed prototype has been used to visualize and verify different solutions regarding connected laundry machines, while the ensuing interview study has provided insights into the organizational opportunities and challenges with the creation of an IoT infrastructure. By creating a rich picture of the complex environment surrounding an IoT solution the project has successfully produced knowledge about both technological development and business opportunities associated with IoT.
