Purpose and goal
The project has created increased knowledge of the conditions for engineering companies in Bergslagen to apply circular economy. The project identified innovation-oriented companies that should be able to increase the degree of circular economy with reasonable efforts. The project developed a methodology that was tested by four companies. The project captured challenges, opportunities and good examples. A guide was produced that describes circular economy, methodology, business models and good examples. A workshop shared knowledge. Regional competences were identified.
Expected results and effects
The project shows that there are challenges, but also opportunities for more innovation-oriented companies to build circular business models. Some business models already support circular economy. To increase product life, companies can develop modular design, standardize, create end-of-life strategies, increase share of renovations, create secondary markets and create services. Examples in the guide shows the competitiveness of circular business models. Increased regional dialogue is expected to increase interest and generate measures for circular economy.
Planned approach and implementation
The project had a god arrangement with the mix of companies and supporting experts. The actors were very open-minded willing to discuss opportunities and challenges. Traditional business models were challenged by circular principles and created awareness, understanding and increased knowledge. Companies visited provided valuable information for the methodology, guide and requirements. The guide will provide support in future work. The final workshop gave a good response. The lack of time is a challenge for companies to increase their level of knowledge within circular economy.
