Project duration December 2018 - September 2020
Status Completed
Venture Circular and biobased economy
Call Policy and behavioral issues for a biobased circular economy

Purpose and goal

With service design methodology and visualization tools, the project has included many stakeholders in the process and thus ensured a broad platform of insights. We have identified obstacles and opportunities for electronics-producing companies during conversion and scaling up. We have studied various problem areas, from material handling to business models.Through a vision project, we have studied actual effects of different circular concepts.

Expected results and effects

It is too cheap to stay linear and expensive to change. Incentives, clarity, financial and knowledge support from decision makers are needed to speed up decisions about key investments. The transition to a circular economy is more than a matter of materials. There are very few examples of electronics products in a circular economy. Green energy in manufacturing has a very positive effect on the footprint. Products in a circular business model must be redesigned to maximize resource efficiency. Zenit´s work on sustainable conversion can have a major effect on customers´ use of resources.

Planned approach and implementation

The use of service design methodology and visualization tools to discuss, analyze and communicate these complex issues and relationships has proven effective and appreciated, both in the process and for sharing insights and knowledge. The models make it possible to see the systems behind the product flow and identify where we can deploy pilot projects and innovation labs. Study visits have provided many unique insights. The challenges and solutions are different in different markets.
