CGRIND - Circular Connected Coffee

Reference number
Coordinator CGrind AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration April 2019 - December 2019
Status Completed
Venture Innovative Startups

Purpose and goal

The project purpose was to adapt and verify CGRIND´s grocery system, with the goal of offering stores a new coffee experience in combination with increased profitability / new business opportunities, but at the same time minimized environmental and climate impact, mainly through reduced packaging materials but also through optimized transportation and production from roasteries. CGRIND´s solution was very well received and the stores want to test our system in practise for the following reasons: - Add a new experience - Reduced amount of plastic - Increased profitability

Expected results and effects

The results from the project are very positive. CGRINDs´s technical solution as well as the business opportunity have been verified. We have a number of customers who are willing to test the CGRIND system in practice in order to, just as we hoped to, offer their customers a better coffee experience and at the same time minimize their environmental / climate footprint and do better business. Coffee is one of our most common consumer goods. We also hope to create an effect whereby the consumer sees that we can consume differently in the future and that this can also spread to other product areas.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consisted of four work packages, all of which were completed: - requirement spec of store solution - modification of existing system - build prototype - verify solution and develop customer offering Modification of existing system and production of prototype took longer than expected. We therefore produced fewer units than planned, fortunately without any direct impact on the end result. First of all, our solution around the return system needs to be revised to avoid the same mistakes made with the return system on milk. We need an enabling but not a compulsory system.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
