Purpose and goal

The aim is to follow attitudes in order to map short- and long-term trends and identify underlying values. The barometer has been conducted annually since 2002. Our objective is for the VA barometer to offer a coherent and current picture of Swedes´ views on science, research and researchers in a handy and easy-to-understand format and, consequently, stimulate dialogue about the role of science in society. The results of the 2014 survey have been widely disseminated and we therefore believe that the project objectives have been met.

Results and expected effects

Our objective is for the VA barometer to offer a coherent and current picture of Swedes´ views on science, research and researchers in a handy and easy-to-understand format and, consequently, stimulate dialogue about the role of science in society. The VA barometer has been printed and distributed according to the project plan and received good publicity, which we view as a positive indicator that the results are of interest to a large number of people.

Approach and implementation

The 2014 survey was conducted via telephone interviews between September - October 2014, with the support of market research company Exquiro. The results have been analysed and summarised in written and graphical form in the printed publication `VA Barometer 2014/15´. It was launched via a press release and presented at a seminar on 15 December 2014. The survey was carried out according to the project plan.
