Project duration | November 2013 - May 2014 |
Status | Completed |
Purpose and goal
The aim of the project is to bring a unique Swedish material invention, Upsalite, to the market and to create growth for the company Disruptive Materials (DM) which will produce and sell the material, as well as for a number of companies that produce and sell systems where Upsalite will be included. In this feasibilty study, comparison studies with other adsorbents have been conducted to evaluate Upsalite in various applications in the field of dehumidification. A commercialization strategy for Upsalite has been developed and a plan for medium volume production.
Expected results and effects
The manufacturing process of Upsalite has been scaled up 100 times and Disruptive Materials is now able to commit to large scale verification projects with costumer assuring good supply of material. We have gained important knowledge regarding adsorption kinetics and techniques in our collaboration with Munthers and it will serve us well in the near future, both in the current collaboration and with other partners also outside the area of moisture control. Especially the potenial reduction in energy consumtion during regeneration of Upsalite is key for many partners.
Planned approach and implementation
In this feasibility study, mapping of the market for moisture adsorbants was performed as well as comparative performance analyses between Upsalite and other commercially availible adsorbants such as fumed silica and Zeolite -Y. Disruptive Materials synthesized Upsalite in small scale in-house, and in larger scale at a research institute. The manufacture process was successfully scaled up 100 times and a strategy for further scaling for a long-term manufacturing solution was created. Finally, a PCT application was filed with priority from the initial application.
