Important results from the project
We have developed and demonstrated proof-of-concept that our methods for ultra-sensitive detection for improved diagnostis and monitoring of cancer and transplantation medicine, immunological diseases and forensic science work. This includes the whole work processes from sampling, sample processing, ultra-sensitive DNA measurement, bioinformatics to final data analysis. The methods are now ready for validation and further implementation.
Expected long term effects
With the project results, we have working protocols for ultra-sensitive measurement of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) for the applications cancer diagnosis, transplant medicine, immunological diseases and forensic science. The methods are ready for validation and then implementation in the respective organisation. This will contribute to faster, more conviient and cheaper cancer diagnostics, treatment monitoring of cancer treatments and analysis of rejection reactions for transplanted patients, as well as the possibility of identifying perpetrators in serious crimes.
Approach and implementation
The work has been based on six work packages. Project management has common for the whole project organisation lead by RISE, and we have also had a common work package for technical development as our methodology is generic for all differnt applications. All application areas have had their own work package, but there have been strong synergies between the applicatinos and the project has thus collaborated extensively to develop the respective solution.
