Important results from the project
Open innovation processes was used as methodology for development of new concepts. Needs from main stakeholders was presented and used in the hackathon in order to create solutions needed. ALL 10 participating hackathon teams presented new innovative projects within traffic and ICT including solutions broaden the perspective of the public transport, Improve operational efficiency and accessibility and increase the attractiveness through improved user experiences. Due to The hackathon challenge was not executed in three stages.
Expected long term effects
Estimated 230 participants. Collection of 19 dataset presented prior to the event five exclusive to Traffic Jam Session is expected to be re-used for educational use. The best of the 10 hackathon concepts is expected to be further developed in The Data Innovation Arena.
Approach and implementation
Working with an open-innovation methodology is a very effective way of generating concrete solutions in very short time. The presence of stakeholders, with their particular needs, is crucial in order to help hackers navigate towards market needs during the innovation process. Anchoring open innovation takes time. Understanding why allocating resources to a project without the certainty of a concrete output must be anchored with the stakeholders. Engagement before, during, and after the open-innovation process is an important factor in producing viable solutions.
