Topological Machine Learning

Reference number
Coordinator KUNGLIGA TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLAN - Skolan för datavetenskap och kommunikation
Funding from Vinnova SEK 16 173
Project duration December 2013 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

This project gathers most active researchers in applied algebraic topology and topological data analysis within the Stockholm area to jointly articulate interesting directions of research to introduce methods from algebraic topology into machine learning. Within this project, we articulated a concrete research plan to create topological methods to improve machine learning, with applications to computer vision, robotic perception and text analysis.

Results and expected effects

We expect this project to result in a research plan for a longer research project aimed at creating methods for topological machine learning. Such a research plan has been articulated.

Approach and implementation

The trip was undertaken and meetings were held with all planned potential partners except for Karolinska Institutet. The ideas surrounding topological machine learning turned out to be a good match for research planned by Hedvig Kjellström (CVAP, KTH) and Jussi Karlgren (TMH, KTH and Gavagai AB). Together with Drs Kjellström and Karlgren I have started planning grant applications and research projects.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
