Important results from the project
The project aims to create a greater understanding of the value of medical research and innovation to create health and prosperity. By focusing on one illnesses at a time, the aim is to increase the understanding among politicians, media and the general population for - the cost and suffering that the disease causes - show how research and innovation contribute to improve quality of life - ongoing research and hope for the future, from a patient- and economic perspective To achieve this, we have produced 6 fact sheets and 12 movies that in concrete way exemplifies the above mentioned points.
Expected long term effects
The fact sheets and movies will be used to show decision makers how investments in medical research & innovation leads to health and financial gain. This is expected to increase the priority of research and innovation policy among politicians. They will also act as an instrument for patient organizations and journalists. The movies have potential to reach a broad audience through social media and thereby widely spread the message. We have received much positive feedback on our fact sheets and the movies have reached wide spread via youtube and twitter. The spread is expected to continue.
Approach and implementation
Method: 1. Selection of 6 focus areas 2. Gather information a. Statistics b. Interview with researchers c. Interview with patient organizations d. Interview with patients 4. Summarizing and organization of information 5. Verification through involved parties 6. Production of fact sheets 7. Production of short films 8. Launch The selection of focus areas resulted in diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, rheumatism, mental illness and a general fact sheet focusing on future challenges. The project progressed according to the outlined plan.
