Important results from the project
The aim of LIGHTest was a well-described, commercial test bed for advanced analysis of new materials and processes, where Swedish innovative capacity will be increased through collaboration with research actors and other companies. Knowledge of Swedish test beds in manufacturing technology and materials has increased nationally and internationally. Five new supplier collaborations between SMEs and customers have started and regional collaboration agreements and investments have been implemented in Olofström and Piteå.
Expected long term effects
13 pilot projects have resulted in research and development results in TRL between 2 and 6. Potential customers´ requirements have been analysed, and two nodes have developed strategies suitable for current national and international customer groups. Documented experiences from two rounds of pilot projects . Each pilot project has reported to its parties and internally to all project participants, and through two rounds of follow-up interviews we have analysed the collaboration methods in the project for the future test bed. SMEs still need support to use test beds.
Approach and implementation
The project was run through pilot projects that evaluated a collaboration with mandatory sustainability analysis and free use of the skills needed. A budget was set aside for an open call for proposals. This required an agile project approach, where new parties could quickly enter without extensive administration. This worked well, especially for the SMEs that could develop services and materials aimed at new customers. The strategic external steering group with five SIP leaders and industry leaders was essential for the project´s guidance towards sustainable objectives.
