Purpose and goal

Consumption of sustainable food needs to increase while SME companies find it difficult to deliver to the public sector. The purpose of this preparatory project is to investigate the possibilities of developing an open testbed within the public meal service in Södertälje municipality. Through collaboration with stakeholders the goal of the testbed is to significantly increase the amount of sustainable and more locally sourced food served within the public sector and simultaneously promote actors who work with sustainable food in line with Agenda 2030.

Expected results and effects

The project outcome is expected to provide a basis for decision regarding the establishment of a testbed as an arena for private-public cooperation. Including the generation of: - Knowledge of needs, requirements and opportunities of procurers, buyers, ordering systems, logistics and new players such as ICT companies. - A review of open data from the testbed that can be made available to external parties. - Good examples from similar initiatives and more knowledge of potential benefits and opportunities with regard to the implementation of the testbed. - Identification of partners.

Planned approach and implementation

We will hold dialogues with stakeholders about sustainable products and services that can be developed and tested in the testbed. This will be done through for example a market dialogue focusing on innovative procurement and digital opportunities. We will also evaluate the ability of food SMEs to bid for a contract and deliver to the public sector; identify which open data from the municipality´s meal services can be made available to external parties; as well as conduct an analysis focused on the application of sustainability criteria in public procurement of food.
