Sugar-platform processes based on biomass from short-rotation forestry

Reference number
Coordinator Umeå universitet - Kemiska institutionen
Funding from Vinnova SEK 30 000
Project duration January 2017 - May 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the pre-study was to investigate the prerequisites for a subproject based on the use of feedstock from forest trees with short rotation period for sugar-platform processes, in which the polysaccharides of the wood are converted to chemicals and other products through pretreatment and enzymatic saccharification. The potential for a subproject in the area was very good, but due to lacking industrial co-financing the pre-study did not emanate in a full project application 2 May 2017.

Expected results and effects

The potential for a subproject in the area was very good, but due to lacking industrial co-financing the pre-study did not emanate in a full project application at the closing of the call.

Planned approach and implementation

The possibilities for collaboration with other subprojects were analyzed and compiled 23 January 2017. Collaboration issues were further discussed at workshops in Stockholm on 26 January and 13 March 2017. A preliminary full subproject application was elaborated and submitted to BioInnovation Chemicals & Energy 23 March 2017. Discussions about expansion of the consortium and industrial co-funding were held with organizations within and outside the consortium.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
