Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is to identify opportunities and obstacles regarding autonomous vehicles and automated logistics functions in the planning of our cities. The objective is to show how a structural plan can look if we plan according to the assumption that autonomous and automated vehicles and transport systems will be in use in a not too distant future. Partly to show what opportunities the new technology can bring to urban development, but also to show what is required in technology development in order to provide the highlighted benefits for cities and society
Expected results and effects
The preliminary study will partly highlight effects for the planning of electrification, automation / robotization and autonomous vehicles, and identify the need for flexible urban design that enables a development that maximizes the societal benefits of autonomous vehicles. Partly investigate the effects of planning linked to autonomous vehicles and sharing. Ensure that it becomes attractive for residents and workers to share, investigate e.g. size and distance to sharing/mobility hubs as well as combined gains with other functions in the city that generate hotspots and flows.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will follow and be part of the process of the structural plan, which means that working groups, governance, collaborative groups, political reconciliation, etc. can be used as well as the dialogue opportunities connected to this process. This provides good opportunities for communication about autonomous transport systems and its role in cities and urban planning. The work on the preliminary study and scenario analysis with regard to autonomous vehicles will be carried out by a consultant in close collaboration with the working group led by the Stockholm CPD.
