Important results from the project
This preliminary study has had it´s focus on knowledge building on how autonomous vehicles may affect urban design and urban planning and on identifying policy instruments and tools to guid urban development. Our focus has under hand shifted towards future mobility at large; autonomous, electrifyed and connected vehicles in a sharing and service economy. Vehicle engineering and fuel issues have not been in focus. We have also identified areas of interest for more detailed studies to increase our knowledge on future mobility for developments in dense urban environments until 2040.
Expected long term effects
Did we reach our goals? Yes, we managed to build knowledge and increase our common understanding on the topic, but we need to disseminate the knowledge within our organization. We have realized the importance of goal-oriented planning to stear the technology development on the mobility side to generatepossitive output and not negative consequences for the city. We have also identified a great need for in-depth studies that can generate increased knowledge and inhouse experience that can be used in urban design and planning.
Approach and implementation
The preliminary study has consisted of four main activities. To concretise the assignment and to understand the planning process of the structural plan for Kista and to compile generate knowledge on autonomus vehicles. Then two workshops was used, with participants from the municipality and the academy, to discuss how the development of autonomous vehicles can evolve and what this might mean for urban development, next to discuss the impact of autonomous vehicles on urban- and traffic planning in Kista Science City and to specify instruments to stear the development in the projekt.
