Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for the Agricultural Sector

Reference number
Coordinator Stiftelsen Lantbruksforskning
Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration December 2013 - January 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project goal was to develop a strategic research and innovation agenda for the Swedish agricultural and horticultural sectors. The agenda describes how Swedish farmers will reach increased growth and competitiveness through research and innovation. Central to the agenda is a powerful and straightforward model for knowledge transfer. Benefits of the applied research and closeness to the users will interact within the model and tie in with research of high scientific quality. The goal is that Swedish producers should stand up to international competition.

Results and expected effects

The agenda shows ways of working to ensure that research- and innovation funding will lead to tangible benefits and increased growth and competitiveness of Swedish farmers. Funding should also contribute to sustainable solutions for future national and global societal challenges. The agenda contributes in identifying and creating contact areas and meeting venues for key actors within the value chain. Needs, results and knowledge must be identified and effectively communicated in order to gain optimal leverage from the resources available.

Approach and implementation

Stiftelsen Lantbruksforskning coordinated the agenda process in cooperation with reference persons from the agricultural and horticultural sectors. The reference group and key persons for identified innovation areas have contributed as speaking-partners and gaining interest in the sectors. Work has been ongoing since spring 2014 and there have been two major seminars and a number of smaller and larger workshops. Drafts of the agenda have been read by the reference group. At the final conference on February 10, 2015 about 50 people attended from across the sector.
