The plant protection vision for horticulture, clarify the areas in which innovations are needed and it also clarify the structural changes needed to achieve sustainable crop protection measures.

Results and expected effects

There are a number of areas where changes need to be made to achieve a sustainable crop protection strategy in Sweden. This includes the need to strengthen applied research, enhance cooperation between different authorities and reviewing the regulatory framework for the registration of plant protection products. Only when a holistic approach to the crop protection solutions is in place, a sustainable and integrated pest management can be fully achieved.

Approach and implementation

The development of the strategy has been made by a group of representatives from the Federation of Swedish Farmers, Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and the Swedish Board of Agriculture. A reference group with a broader anchoring has been connected to the process. Workshops and small meetings with stakeholders were also made. An important part of the work has been to follow and contribute to the development of parallel works within plant protection which have been made. In addition, already existing related documents has been taken into account.
