Purpose and goal

The project aims primarily to clarify the minimum requirements which initially will apply to the ITK system, but also to propose a way forward to requirements of more advanced systems. First initial system should be based on Self-monitoring by using existing fleet management systems where some parts are allowed to be manual during a transitional period. This is what we have achieved in the project, but we still have legal issues to be resolved.

Expected results and effects

The project has developed a proposed specification for an ICT system that is based on existing Fleet management systems and Self-monitoring. It is intended to be used to verify that the 74 - ton vehicle does not run off the road network where they are allowed, which would cause premature degradation of roads and bridges. It also checks that the permissible gross weight not is exceeded. The system can also be used to monitor dispense vehicles and ADR (dangerous goods) vehicles.

Planned approach and implementation

The literature review was supplemented with an international workshop, analysis of the Swedish pilot of the Australian IAP system, HCT- demonstrators, tachographs, toll collection, and two workshops with key stakeholders. A comprehensive list of requirements was developed. Some proposed to become mandatory, others recommended. These were supplemented by analysis of 13 use cases for different users. The requirements were performance based, not a specific technology, to stimulate innovation.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
