Purpose and goal

ST develops textile innovations and textile solutions that can be used in innovative products in unexpected ways. We have had success in linking different skills in cross-industry development projects , for example between textile research and medical - device industry. With Smart Textiles (ST) is western Sweden establishing an international leading role in the design, development and production of the next generation of textile products. Since 2007 have we had 194 business projects. We have 70 products on the market , over 160 prototypes , and 48 new companies have been started .

Results and expected effects

ST contributes to regional / national development, such as our cooperation with the Southern Älvsborg Hospital which enables development of new products and jobs. A milestone in the ST internationalization is the grant of a prestigious research application within Horizon 2020 -35 million crowns and 15 new PhD positions for 4 years. It has been made within the network ArcInTex where the University of Borås is the initiator and coordinator. Textile Showroom is a successful meeting place and an attractive window with prototypes and research where we have had over 4000 visitors since 2013.

Approach and implementation

We have approached the vision to be an internationally recognized arena for textile innovation. We are an active partner for professional development/networking between researchers, companies and public sector. Our effort to establish and participate in national and international networks have given results eg the granting of a large application within The EU-program Horizon 2020. Our focus areas (Health & Medicine, Architecture & Interior, Sustainable textiles) helps us structure the work, allows filtering the requests and helps us in international collaborations
