Purpose and goal

The ambition has been that the Forest Technology Cluster (STK) & SLU (SBT Department of Forest Biomaterials & Technology) will build an innovation system and a competence node within smart machines for cost-effective forestry. Mechatronics & Robotics are strong areas among other things. In this area, 3D-printed models have been developed. The fulfillment has been above expectations. The project´s strategic idea "the innovation environment" has through continuous collaboration been developed between academia, business and society to meet future needs in the bio-based economy.

Expected results and effects

All meetings and participation in activities have strengthened and highlighted the added value of collaboration between different parties in the region. New partners belong to collaboration exempel STK has been invited to a Horizon 2020 application "Robot4Forest" by a Finnish partner. Some of the common challenges facing the region are the provision of skills, climate change and the need for new innovations / new technologies. Here, STK can have a role continuing to gathering the region to find solutions to common challenges in bioeconomy. Results will be presented at STKs webb site.

Planned approach and implementation

STK has met formerly Vinnväxt winners, visited a large number of companies, municipalities universities, org. and incubators. Organized and participated in workshops, seminars and networking on activities related to bioeconomy and sought out actors to continue developing STK´s innovation systems, eg. companies and researchers in IT, electronics, hydraulics, gameification. Taken lead to drive technology development within bioeconomy, gender equality and sustainability issues, etc. STK has also been selected in strategic working groups.
