Smart bracelet and watch strap by Fidesmo and Triwa

Purpose and goal

The project combines high-quality and award-winning fashion with prominent digitization technology, which means that fashion accessories can, besides looking good, simplify everyday life by connecting different digital services such as, among other things, Mastercard´s contactless payment solution. Just think about how many plastic cards we have in our wallet and at home, where each card has only one service. And now imagine all these services in a single gadget like a watch strap!

Expected results and effects

Fidesmo and Triwa have launched a watch strap with payment functionality called "Tapster" which can be used for contactless payments by consumers who have SEB bank cards. Amongst results from research and design in this project are also two different types of EMVCo certified chips and antennas that can be sold to additional watch manufacturers, which creates opportunities for a scalable ecosystem with associated contactless services with international potential. The two pilots and market research have identified the areas for further productification and commercialization.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been implemented in the format of four subprojects (with two pilots as working frames) which together have in the end created a watch strap with payment functionality called "Tapster". The four sub-projects are 1) Hardware design 2) Small (internal) pilot 3) Software development 4) Large pilot with 1000 users. There has been a strong connection between the four sub-projects. In order to facilitate collaboration between partners and sub-projects, we had a project manager who created a project group with various stakeholders from both Fidesmo and Triwa.
